Academic Theme Manager

WHAT WE DO:

We make sure that the house has what it needs to function as the Academic Theme house. This includes events and also supplies in the study rooms.

Board Representatives

WHAT WE DO:

Cloyne has two Board Reps. Their central-level duties are to attend and actively participate in all Board meetings and all meetings of the committee each of them serves on. Board oversees and executes high-level decision-making for the BSC!

At the unit-level, Board Reps are supposed to engage with their housemates about Board matters, including member education, opportunities to get involved, sharing and enabling access to minutes, announcing important discussions and decisions in advance, and speaking with members about these items to represent your thoughts to Board. Let your Board Reps know if you want to see something that you’re not getting!

  • You have any questions regarding house-level policy (Board Reps are pretty well versed in that too!)

Common Electronics Manager

WHAT I DO:

Maintain household electronics

COME TO ME IF:

  • You wanna learn how to set up any of the projectors/audio systems around the house! Or electronics in general!!!!
  • You have trouble with:
    • the living/bed (LIBED) and Great Hall projectors!
    • kitchen/libed/great hall audio system
    • Printer!!! (altho’ we are getting a new one soon)
    • any of the household computers
  • Have a great electronics project you wanna discuss!

Community Manager(s)

WHAT WE DO:

We do our best to help make this home a cohesive community and try to provide resources to the house to help mediate conflicts, both current and future.

COME TO US IF:

  • You have any questions about what we do
  • You need help with roommates or other house members
  • You have ideas about ways that the community could be improved
  • You’re locked out (we have lockout keys)
  • You just want to chat!

Food Managers

(absent in Summer)

WHAT WE DO:

Ensure there is enough food available for everyone to have 19 meals/wk. Oversee dinners and food production shifts. Ensure that food is accessible and stored properly.

COME TO US IF:

  • You have ideas for food-related workshops
  • You want to talk food ethics/policy
  • You want to know where that $90,000 is going
  • Inquiries about anything food-related (ie. what you actually eat, we don’t buy the tape)

Garden Manager

WHAT I DO:

Manage outdoor garden area (perimeter and courtyard) and regulate garden compost system.

  • You want to plant anything
  • General questions about plants
  • You’re unsure if you can eat something from the garden
  • Cute af flower arrangements
  • Any project ideas for the garden!

Health Manager

WHAT I DO: I keep the health cabinet stocked, create monthly health tips, and monthly workshops. I also attend bi-weekly meetings with other Health Workers on Monday nights.

COME TO ME IF:

  • You need band-aids, pregnancy tests, condoms, or anything else you think should be in the health cabinet! Unfortunately, ingestibles are not allowed to be purchased through the house account but come to me if you need anything and I can talk to you about alternative methods to help you out.
  • You want to talk about any aspect of your health or have a health related question!
  • If you are looking for health related resources in the area!
  • Feeling sad, happy, angry, depressed, anxious, (any emotion) and need someone to talk to!
  • If you have any suggestions for workshops or health tips!

Historian

WHAT WE DO:

We record the events of the household! We’re also in charge of the bulletin board outside the dining room and the slideshow at Special Dinner at the end of the semester.

COME TO US IF:

You have an event you want recorded, or there are photos from an event you want.

House Manager

WHAT I DO:  Keep the house running smoothly, stuff like:

  • Lockouts and key stuff
  • Conflict resolution
  • Emergency plans – fire safety, etc.
  • Welcome week stuff and move-ins and room bids
  • Move-outs
  • Furniture ordering
  • Helping keep the house habitable

COME TO ME IF:

  • You have any questions or concerns about Cloyne (or other stuff) – what to do in different situations, how something works, etc.
  • You’re locked out or need something unlocked
  • You’re having a problem with something or someone in the house – ex. Roommate disagreements, quiet hours violations, concerns about guests, other conflicts
  • You’re having a problem with your furniture (though you’ll probably want to check with maintenance first)
  • You have anything you want to talk about :)

House Presidents

WHAT WE DO:

We facilitate Cloyne Council, Manager Meetings, and internal and external disputes.  We also carry lockout keys, act as quick reference points for Cloyne and BSC Bylaws and House Policy, and run manager elections and Votes of Confidence (VOCs).  We are responsible for checking up on all managers and ensuring that they perform the duties prescribed in the Cloyne and BSC Bylaws.  We have a few other minor responsibilities, but they generally tie in with the responsibilities above.  Most importantly, though, we are here to be at your service in an effort to help create an awesome community we can all call home.

COME TO US IF:

  • You have policy questions (House- or BSC-level).
  • You have feedback, suggestions, or ideas about how to generally improve our house (in any respect), but are unsure how to go about doing it.
  • You want to discuss personal matters or need someone to facilitate conflict resolution.
  • You are locked out.

Kitchen Managers

WHAT WE DO:

We’re in charge of kitchen sanitation, organization, and safety. We also lead the IKC workshift.

  • You have a kitchen workshift (IKC, kitchen clean, etc.) and want some pointers
  • You have a question or suggestion about kitchen sanitation, organization and/or safety

Librarian

WHAT I DO:

Organize the books in the library!

COME TO ME IF:

  • You have a request for a book you want
  • You don’t know where to find a book in the library

Mail Manager

WHAT I DO:

  • Organize the mail
  • Putting letters and small mail into the mailboxes
  • Bring packages into the mail room
  • Hold regular office hours for members to pick up packages

Maintenance Managers

WHAT WE DO:

  • Work with maintenance crew to fix small house-level issues (clogs, dead lights, etc.)
  • Coordinate with central-level staff to fix larger issues
  • Organize Home Improvement (HI) projects and communicate with house about these opportunities and deadlines for completing these

IMPORTANT INFO:

Makerspace Manager

WHAT WE DO: Oversee the basement, especially the Makerspace! We try to make it a tidy ‘n’ creative place to hang and make things. We also put on dank workshops (from figure drawing to screen printing) that you should totally come to! ʕ •`ᴥ•´ʔ

  • You want any sort of supplies for the Makerspace!

Network Manager

WHAT I DO:

  • Make sure our Internet and servers are operational
  • Maintain and educate the house about digital apps used by the house
  • Update house email listservs

COME TO ME IF:

  • If you have issues with Internet or use of any of our servers or apps.
  • You should have both WiFi and Ethernet socket working in your room. Use Ethernet if you can (faster, better).
  • If your WiFi is constantly slower than 5 Mbit/s. Test: http://speedtest.net/
  • You want to learn more about how our network operates, or would like to help build WiFi connections to other houses.
  • You have an idea or feedback for any digital apps or you want to help develop them.
  • You want to change or add to Cloyne.org (the menu, theme, pages, etc.)! You can always add blogs by signing in with your member account and access this slideshow on how to change Cloyne.org.

Social Manager

What I do:

  • I plan social events that bring people together :)
  • Have fun
  • Help build the Cloyne community

  • You want to invite clones to something you’ve put together–a show, film, a musical
  • You want to give me feedback on an event about what we did that was great/can improve

How to contact me:

Waste Reduction Managers (WRMs)

WHAT WE DO:

We WRMs are in charge of making sure the house gets its shit together…literally. We are responsible for informing the house of our elaborate wasting system and making it accessible.

COME TO US IF:

  • You want to talk shit
  • You don’t know where to throw something away – almost everything can be thrown in something other than landfill
  • You have questions about the free pile or the E-Waste closet in the basement
  • You need tips to help reduce your environmental impact
  • You have an awesome waste reduction idea you want to share

HOW TO CONTACT US:

Workshift Managers

COME TO US IF:

  • You are down hours and need hours to do
  • You want paid workshift (must have an I-9 on file at Central)
  • There is a mistake with your workshift balance, sign-off history
  • You can’t do your workshift because of injury, illness, or vacation (at least 3 days in advance unless medical emergency)
  • You find that a workshift is not being done properly or that a problem in the house needs workshift to be solved
  • Your workshift took much longer (maybe someone previous skipped their shift or maybe it was just a huge mess) than the hours you are credited
  • You have any suggestions or requests regarding workshift
